What’s the role?

Etsy is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Trust & Safety Foundations (TSF) engineering team. TSF is responsible for creating tools and automated frameworks our Trust & Safety organization and agents can use to efficiently monitor and respond to our marketplace while keeping a sense of community. You will help coordinate our engineering efforts between the agents that provide front-line response, security engineering, and the members that expect a reliable and safe experience.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager of Trust & Safety Foundations. For this role, we are considering candidates based in Ireland who are either remote, flex, or office-based. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Combine data from across the organization to build automated controls that monitor, action and alert agents on violating behaviors in the marketplace.
• Create systems that generate a comprehensive perspective on buyer and seller interactions.
• Work closely with operational teams and analysts that actively observe patterns to rapidly define new automated controls.
• Leverage a rich data warehouse of metrics and behavior information to alert and take action on trends of user behaviors.
• Our continuous delivery pipeline ships PHP and Javascript, and is backed by large distributed MySQL and Memcached clusters running on Google Cloud.
• The development of key strategic systems consisting of Real-time Risk Controls engine, Image & Video Recognition, Agent Annotations and a Risk Controls Inventory that scales Trust & Safety in a self sufficient and sustainable fashion.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role:

• You have full stack software engineering experience in one or more high level programming languages. Our hiring is language agnostic; Python, Go, Ruby, Java, C++ are all backgrounds we onboard people from.
• You are people focused, build with a user in mind and think of infrastructure and services in product terms.
• You communicate well and are willing to take on a mentoring role with teammates and peers.
• You are a great listener and take the time to understand the needs of Etsy.
• You write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
• You enjoy thinking about the implications of your work on end users.
